For the fifth wave of the EVS, a new instrument was made available for the national teams’ translation process: the Translation Management Tool (TMT). The TMT is an online platform aimed to help coordinate the translation process within the National teams, to allow the Central team to supervise the national teams’ work, and to store and report structured information on every phase of the translation process (draft translations, comments, final translation).

Previously to the start of the translation process, the Master Questionnaire was uploaded in the TMT, and each element was matched with the existing translations. Translation annotations were available for ambiguous concepts, to avoid inconsistencies in the interpretation of the questionnaire between the national teams. Countries sharing a language could view each other’s translation, to maximize the harmonization between same-language versions of the questionnaire.
